Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of day-old French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 8 large eggs

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries

Instructions:

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

  2. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the baking dish.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, making sure that all of the bread is coated.

  5. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 2 hours) to allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture.

  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  7. Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and pour the melted butter over the top of the bread cubes.

  8. Bake the French toast for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture is set.

  9. Allow the French toast to cool for a few minutes before serving.

  10. Serve with powdered sugar, maple syrup, and/or fresh berries as desired.

This French toast bake can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or oven before serving. Enjoy!
